Balkanlarda yaşayan Türkler tarih boyunca hiçbir su işlemeksizin, sırf ait oldukları etnik veya dinsel kimlikleri yüzünden gayrimüslim komşuları yüzünden zulme maruz kaldılar. Tüm bu katliamların ortak bir amacı vardı: Etnik temizlik yoluyla Müslümanların sayısını azaltmak, onları göçe zorlamak ve nihayette bölgenin etnik haritasını değiştirmekti.
